A strategy used in the Nate Norman profile was beginning with a general introduction of how his drug trafficking idea started instead of beginning with the description. This adds a more complex layer of composition to the profile. Mark Binelli then proceeds to give a description of how Norman’s “friends” saw him as. Binelli then proceeds directly to the center of the action by talking of how Norman and Topher decide to transport marijuana across the Canadian border. Binelli then proceeds to present Topher in jail reminiscing about the good times. Binelli unadvertedly presents a “nice” side of Norman, by giving a paragraph where he details Norman as a hard worker and even his own mother saying he was a good kid and helped others; this was perhaps to avoid bias, and present both sides of the coin. Binelli then makes their operation sound like an adventure to draw in the reader’s attention. He dramatically builds up to what everyone was expecting: a change in attitude and personality from Norman. Binelli then begins to build up the rival character “Butler” but instead of it being him that takes out Norman he is killed by the same thugs he hires to do the job. The ending is somewhat weak, however since Norman gets caught as expected but Binelli does not try to put a dramatic spin to it.
